On the of this page are links to 3 proposed resolutions for consideration by the WSPHA membership. These resolutions are presented as written by the authors for preliminary review by the membership. the WSPHA Board has reviewed the following resolutions and endorses them.

Please review the proposed resolutions before the Annual Business meeting on Tuesday, October 7th, at the Joint Conference in Yakima. Contact information for the resolution sponsors is also posted. If you have any questions or suggestions for the sponsors, please contact them.

Members will have the opportunity to discuss resolutions at a special session on the first day of the Joint Conference on Health (Monday, October 6th from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm).

Reviewing the proposals in advance of the conference will help inform the voting process and will strengthen the resulting resolutions. Resolutions proposed and passed by WSPHA members play a critical part in WSPHA’s role as an advocacy organization. The Board of Directors uses these resolutions to formulate letters or testimony stating the organization’s position in response to proposed legislation or rules, and in educating the public on public health issues.

In 2007, WSPHA began a conversation with Central Washington University about establishing an on-line practice journal.  The resulting contract negotiations established the Washington State Journal of Public Health Practice.  A provision of that contract -- that the Journal Editor be an ex officio member of the WSPHA Board of Director -- requires an amendment to WSPHA's Constitution and By-Laws.  WSPHA members will have the opportunity to consider and vote on the following motion to amend the Constitution and By-Laws at the annual business meeting at the Joint Conference on Health:

“All officers of the Association, the Affiliate Representative to the Governing Council of the American Public Health Association and a student representative, enrolled at least half-time in a public health program appointed by the President and confirmed by the Board, shall be voting members of the Board of Directors upon assuming office. The Editor of the Washington State Journal of Public Health Practice shall serve ex officio without vote as a member of the Board of Directors. The President of the Association shall be the Chair of the Board of Directors and the Secretary shall serve as Secretary of the Board of Directors.”
