The new edition of the Magazine showcases concrete examples of practice-based innovations, strategies and interventions that are using evidence to create more equitable public health systems in Washington state and the larger northwest region. Hilary Godwin Named Dean of the School of Public Health By Jackson Holtz July 15, 2018, Hilary Godwin will be replacing Interim Dean Joel Kaufman at the University of Washington School of Public Health. Godwin comes from UCLA’s Fielding School of Public Health as a professor and associate dean. At UCLA, Godwin received the award for Distinguished Teacher and hopes to bring even more strength to an already strong program so that the UW School of Public Health may continue to strive for a healthier future.
The Opioid Crisis: Meditations in a Public Health Emergency Dr. Robert Bree Collaborative
On October 26th, the White House declared the opioid crisis a National Public Health Emergency. This act fulfilled a long-standing campaign promise of the president, with one seemingly small, but significant modification: the declaration of a National Public Health Emergency, not just a National Emergency. While this may sound like a simple semantics issue, with one being an abbreviation or umbrella term for the other, in reality these are two distinct terms with considerable differences. Read more
