Memorial Scholarship

This $5000 scholarship is provided by the WSPHA in honor of Adrian Dominguez. Adrian was a proud gay, Latino man, a champion of health equity, and an active member and board chair of the WSPHA. Adrian was a constant voice that racism in Washington State was a source of illness and reduced years of healthy life for black, indigenous, and communities of color. His research and advocacy focused on the fact that race, income, and zip code have bigger impacts on health than personal behavior, medical care, or genetic code remain groundbreaking and consequential. It will always be remembered that Adrian worked and lived by the WSPHA vision of, “A healthy Washington for all.” He was committed to mentoring and training the next generation of public health leaders and scholars.

In Honor of our Dear friend:

Awardees shall be provided with WSPHA Annual Conference attendance, including registration, accommodation, travel, and meals. Attendance to the conference will be expected a minimum of one time during this scholarship.

Selection Criteria

Student must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Washington State. Degree program should be in some area of public health, including epidemiology, social justice, environmental justice, health equity, health policy, Indigenous health, or community health. Awardees shall demonstrate in their application how they align with Adrian Dominguez’s values that includes pursuing a career or body of work in service of others, addressing racism as a public health crisis, and/or utilizing data to drive health equity, commitment to promoting health equity in Washington State.

  • Student must be enrolled in a public health degree program in a college or university in Washington state.
  • Student should be living in-state. Undocumented, DACA-eligible, and international students are encouraged to apply.
  • Note: Past recipients of this fellowship are no longer eligible.
  • Note: Relatives of members of the selection committee, or of WSPHA Board officers, directors, or substantial contributors are not eligible for this scholarship.

How to Apply:

Step 1: Gather The REquired Documents
You will need to submit these documents in addition to your written application:
  • Resume/CV
  • Proof of enrollment in WA public health degree program
  • Unofficial transcript from current or previous educational institution
  • A recommendation letter (1 page) from an advisor, mentor, or equivalent

Step 2: Apply by Aug 15, 2026 via link
Step 3: attend the Annual Conference Oct. 13-15, 2026
Application submission closes August 15, 2026 at 11:59pm (PST). 
We plan to announce the awardee in early September, 2026.
We expect to present this award at the 2026 Annual Conference in Wenatchee, WA between October 13-14, 2026. If selected, the awardee will recieve a full scholarship to attend the conference.
