Recognizing our Colleagues
Each year, WSPHA honors outstanding professionals with annual awards. Nominations are open to all, while the final selections are made by the WSPHA Board. Award recipients are announced at the Annual Conference.
Public Health Leadership Award
This award recognizes leadership competence and demonstration in the areas of public health advocacy, research, education, and/or equity and social justice. The nominee must have substantive experience in the public health field.
Public Health Excellence Award

Exceptional Student Award
This award recognizes a public health employee, not in senior management, who demonstrates exceptional skill and dedication in public health practice. Excellence is shown through surpassing standard expectations and making a meaningful impact on colleagues and the community.
This award recognizes and honors a person who has been a champion in the causes of equity and the undoing of racism in their community. Examples of this work could include policy change, leadership, activism, community mobilization, or research. Named after former WSPHA President Adrian Dominguez, who was a steadfast leader in health equity, data equity, and addressing racism as a public health crisis.
This award honors a student in public health or a related field who has shown leadership and commitment to public health in the areas of advocacy, research, academia, and/or community involvement. The nominee may be an undergraduate or graduate-level student.
Elected Official:
Laurie Jinkins Public Health Champion Award
Presented to an elected official in Washington who has demonstrated ongoing support for public health and courageous leadership among his or her colleagues. The recipient is selected and awarded this honor by the WSPHA Board of Directors. There is no nomination process for this award.
Elected Official:
June Robinson PUblic Health Funding Award
Presented to an elected official in Washington who has demonstrated ongoing support for public health and courageous leadership among his or her colleagues related to public health funding. The recipient is selected and awarded this honor by the WSPHA Board of Directors. There is no nomination process for this award.
Public Health Governance Award
This award recognizes and honors a Board of Health (on any level) that champions public health and its critical role in the community it serves. Examples of this include policies, resolutions, and funding.
Lifetime Achievment
This award honors those who have spent a lifetime shaping the field of public health in Washington State.
